StudioFractal successfully delivered an award winninglighting scheme for the Departures concourse extension, forecourt and the refurbished International Departures Lounge at Heathrow Terminal 4. The comprehensive lighting designs focused on passenger experience and sustainability.

Inspired by the changing aspects of the skies over Heathrow, the digitally controlled ceiling provides an abstract representation of abstract cloud formations. High-quality colour changing LED's integrated within the IDL's fin ceiling construction create a gentle undulation of light above the seating and circulation zones.

Supplementary accent lighting reveals winding coves and perimeter features whilst illuminating signage and wayfinding elements. The carefully balanced lighting scheme generates a unique airport environment offering comfort, legibility and an ever-changing aesthetic.
